Stack Exchange network consists of 170 Q&A communities including Stack Overflow , the largest, most trusted online community for developers to learn, share their knowledge, and build their careers. Cryptography is used to make it impossible for anyone to spend funds from any another user’s wallet and could be used to encrypt all it so that it can’t be used without password. This type of protection is also ensured for electronic bank transfers and credit card transactions.

Bitcoin is very useful if you want to buy drugs and other illegal items without easily being identified. You can spend them on online black markets such as Silk Road. A 2012 study found that around 20 percent of all bitcoins exchanged on (Bitcoin’s largest exchange) each day were spent on Silk Road. However, the site has been under heavy DDoS attack which has led some to report that it is collapsing, while others have said that an individual had been trying to blackmail the organisation.

Consider how Bitcoin traders have made money. They aim to make something like a 1% return on a daily basis. Present volatility makes this sort of aim achievable, even if one has only a simple cross over strategy (see picture below, featuring a simple cross-over strategy).

Currently the settlement price of the January 1st, 2018 futures contract is pegging the digital currency’s future price at $15,700 with relatively little volume being traded. Each contract is pegged at one bitcoin, meaning volume exchanged has totaled about $7.7M with actual dollars traded being less since the contract only requires a 30% margin requirement.

Investors will closely watch how CME’s contract fares because the more than 100-year-old exchange runs several of the world’s most-liquid futures markets in interest rates, currencies, equity indices and commodities. Futures listings tend to be a winner-takes-all business.
